Moviehaüs is a webcomic about two guys that work in the fictional Moviehaüs Video, a movie and videogame rental store in just about any town anywhere. It mostly pokes fun at customers, bad movies, bad games, and weird retail transactions.
All art and writing for Moviehaüs is done by Ryan Karl, a 23 year-old amateur artist. (I’m keeping the amateur status for Olympic reasons)
Honestly, all i wanted to do was create someting that i could pour some time into and make great. I saw so many other webcomics out there, and thought “y’know what? I could totally do that.” I had tried the whole online comics thing before on an old Angelfire webpage, 25 MB storage, 5 MB transfer. I think I got about 6 or 7 comics in before I completely ran out of webspace.
Recently, I had been toying around with the idea of doing comics based around a weekly Dungeons & Dragons game I had started up with a few friends. The following is the only comic to come from it:

It’s not bad, but that’s pretty much the whole Schtick. The little Tiefling would try to boss my Dragonborn Fighter around, just because he was a Warlord. It wasn’t comedic gold, and should probably just be left to rot on my harddrive.
next, i toyed around with the idea of doing a World of Warcraft comic, based around my guild, The Guild of Calamytous Intent (on Eonar). The only comic done for that one was:

This ended up scrapped too, basically because there are ALOT of WoW comics out there already, and mine wasn’t particularly good.
So, back to the drawing board, as they say. The result was me brainstorming two very different ideas. The first, and most predominant, was Moviehaüs. The comic about working in a retail video store, and the reason why you’re even bothering to read this. The second, and most creative one, is called “Alex Hunter: Appropriatly Named Bounty Hunter”. This one is still in development, but should be up soonish. Because the material for “Alex Hunter” stems from fantasy rather than reality, i want to make sure i have a few chapters of scripts banked before taking the comic live.
It will be a departure from the Gag-a-Day strip format that Moviehaüs has, as it is a long-form action comic. it still a bit less serious than some of the other long-forms out there, but it is still an action/plot comic.
Well, I think that’s enough about me, If you want to contact me, just look below.
